Technical Director
With curricular formation in Electricity/Electronics, at Secondary Education; Photography, and Cinema and Moving Image, at ArCo; as well as superior formation in Motorsport Engineering, by Kingston University London; João Daniel Oliveira Chaves has a long curriculum in several technical areas related to video and audio in a cinema context and art and architecture exhibitions.
On a personal level he has developed some work in 35mm photography and Super8 cinema. He has a great interest for physical supports of contents, namely paper, magazines, books, catalogues and film, 35mm photography and Super8 and 16mm film.
On a professional level, most of his career was spent at the historic Bazar do Video, of which his parents are the founding owners. From there comes the level of demand that he tries to impress in all the projects he gets involved in.
As technical director of Balaclava Noir, Lda. he has developed together with artists, curators and architects national and international exhibition projects that include some biennales of art and architecture such as the biennale of Venice (Art and Architecture), São Paulo, Jeonju, among others. He frequently develops projects with renowned institutions, such as Museu Berardo, MAAT, Fundação Serralves and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, providing installation and technical consultancy services, always with great demand, mainly about his work and his team.
Recently, a good part of his time has been dedicated to working with film in an exhibition context in its 16mm and 35mm aspects in moving image and 35mm and medium format slides, both in its installation and maintenance, as well as in its conservation and continuity.
